With a vibrant and compelling sound, the Scotland-based Resol String Quartet are fast rising stars united by a mission to share the riches of chamber music with new audiences. This informal coffee concert is an easily digestible introduction to their virtuosity in a multi- coloured programme that mixes timeless works with exciting contemporary voices. J S Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 features the immortal Air on a G String , whilst Samuel Barber’s heartrending Adagio for Strings became a cinematic classic in the movie Platoon. There’s also a lively humoresque from Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, a deft allegretto from Arnold Bax and two mesmerising miniatures from Pulitzer Prize-winner Caroline Shaw. Finally, Glasgow’s Donald Grant evokes a haunting Scottish legend in his folk-infused The Witch of Leannachan .
