SECRET BYRD P E R T H F E S T I V A L O F T H E A R T S 16 One of England’s greatest composers, William Byrd was a covert Catholic facing brutal persecution, so his Mass for Five Voices was intended to be sung for worship in strictest secrecy. This uniquely atmospheric event celebrates Byrd’s 400-year legacy and brings together acclaimed vocal ensemble The Gesualdo Six and viol consort Fretwork to perform Byrd’s masterpiece for an intimate audience in St John’s Kirk. Part art installation, part concert, and part theatre, Secret Byrd was created by writer, director and composer Bill Barclay, former Director of Music at Shakespeare’s Globe. There will be two performances beginning at 5.30pm and 8.30pm and audiences will have the opportunity to move around the performance space in this roving, immersive event. Our Top Tier ticket gives you a guaranteed seat for the performance. 17:30 & 20:30 | SUN 24 MAY | ST JOHN’S KIRK TICKETS £37 SOUP AND A SEAT £25 GENERAL ADMISSION (PROMENADE/ LIMITED SEATING) “Musically it’s glorious... chillingly authentic... ominous, buoyant and uplifting..." ★★★★★ The Guardian BUY AT PERTH FESTIVAL BOX OFFICE
